Director of Hotel Performance
HOW DID YOU COME TO WORK WITH OUR COMPANY? TELL US YOUR STORY.
After graduating from Washington State University with a degree in Business Administration, I sought out an opportunity in hospitality at the urging of a good friend. After spending 5 years at a Best Western in the Downtown Seattle market working my way up from a night manager to general manager, the company I worked for needed to downsize after the sale of 2 of their hotel properties.
Thanks to the recommendations from my superiors to the leadership at 360º Hotel Group I was granted an interview with Shawn Walker and Shaiza Damji for the open Hotel Nexus General Manager position. Though, no doubt, visibly nervous and even apprehensive about the position, Shawn and Shaiza decided to take a chance on me, to which I will always be grateful. Though I ended up leaving after two and a half years, to work in my family’s business, I was excited to again interview with Shawn for a new opportunity in 2015, first managing the Best Western Plus Navigator Inn & Suites, and soon to work in my new role, maximizing hotel performance.
THINGS YOU LIKE ABOUT YOUR JOB OR WORKING FOR
Making real, revenue generating contributions to the company in any form, finding new and more streamline ways of operating, and helping this company embrace new technologies are what keeps me jazzed. I also enjoy and respect the people I work with.
FAVORITE GUIDING PRINCIPLE
My favorite operational principle would be “Howard’s Hospitality Icons”. However, more generally, I like the Gerald Ford quote, “Tell the truth, work hard, and come to dinner on time” and the simplicity, effectiveness and work-life balance it speaks to.
MOST INTERESTING THING ABOUT YOU THAT’S NOT WORK-RELATED
I own different shoes for motorcycling, hiking, dancing, bowling, baseball, and skiing and I love to use them.
